Welcome to AADMM’s 2022 Virtual Annual Conference. As we have learned over the past two years, a virtual conference allows us to maintain the high-quality training and networking that has long defined an AADMM conference experience. We have fine-tuned the online platform, and we’re excited to offer participants the education, interaction, and value that they have come to expect.

Here’s what you can expect at this year’s conference:

Quality education: Starting with our opening presentation from Matt Paxton, one of the country’s best-known hoarding and decluttering experts, this year’s schedule is full of great sessions. Our outstanding speakers will discuss diverse topics related to daily money management. They will be available to answer questions during the sessions as well.
Access to all sessions: All presentations, including general and breakout sessions, will be recorded. Your conference fee provides access to these recorded sessions.
Networking and interaction: Our conference will offer the ability to meet with people to discuss topics that are relevant to you, and you can also invite your fellow participants to chat.
Flexibility: The two conference days are shortened, allowing you to view as many or as few presentations as you wish in the live format, and return later to review anything you missed.
Convenient access to virtual exhibitors: Our virtual exhibit hall opens the day before the conference, allowing you to visit with exhibitors and learn about their products and services at a convenient time for you.

Decluttering With Matt Paxton
Matt Paxton is one of the top downsizing and decluttering experts in the country. He is the host of the two-time Emmy-nominated series Legacy List with Matt Paxton on PBS and was a featured cleaner on the hit television show Hoarders for 15 seasons. Matt is also the author of the best-selling book, Keep the Memories, Lose the Stuff. Paxton started cleaning out houses after his father, step-father, and both grandfathers died in the same year and this is the reason Matt has been working with families struggling with hoarding and downsizing for 20 years.

Matt will share his approach to the decluttering process, and you will learn how you can adopt his concepts while working with your clients in decluttering their financial documents and processes. Understanding and listening to your client is the key to a successful “reorganize and clean up” project.

Expanding your score of work to include fiduciary responsibilities can be very lucrative, but it also carries greater risks. During this session, we will discuss what it means to be a fiduciary, the types of roles a fiduciary holds, the processes and protections needed, as well as the network to support what will be “something new” every day.

At the end of the session, some may jump right in, and others may decide it is not for them. Watching Netflix’s “I Care a Lot” is recommended in advance of this presentation!

Strategies to Help Clients Learn and Understand Long-Term Care Insurance

This informative session will give you an in-depth understanding of long-term care and the impact it has on individuals who need care, those who provide care, and on family members. Are You Hiring? Understanding Employment Taxes Trust Fund Recovery Penalty

This presentation will cover federal tax compliance tips for assisting clients who are small business owners. We will first discuss different types of entity structuring and tax elections primarily focusing on disregarded entities versus S-Corp elections for small business owners. Next, we will cover the importance in correctly distinguishing worker classifications (employees versus independent contractors) as they grow their business and hire employees and the tax filing/payment requirements associated with each type of worker classification. Lastly, we will cover small business income and employment tax compliance pitfalls (i.e. trust fund recovery penalty / SS-8 Determinations) and possible prevention measures, in addition to steps the owner can take to protect themselves personally.

We will discuss nuances of defining and maintaining clear roles, provide information about knowledge maintained by ALCMs, and offer guidance regarding finding the right ALCM when needed. Daily money managers are often faced with difficult ethical decisions when their clients have dementia. Often, there is no determination of incapacity, but clients are making questionable financial decisions. A DMM must weigh the value of autonomy versus financial safe-guards. Clients with reduced cognitive ability are also at greater risk of fraud and scams.
Using case studies and many real examples, this interactive presentation will highlight how ALCPs and DMMs can work together to promote client autonomy while also protecting financial vulnerability.
