September marks the end of summer and the return to school for students and teachers. It is also an important month for estimated tax payments, especially for individuals who receive income without withholding—such as investment earnings or home business income.
Estimated Tax Payments
The third quarter estimated tax payment is due on the 15th unless it falls on a weekend or holiday, in which case the payment is due the next business day following the 15th. If you mail your payment, the IRS considers it on time if it is postmarked on or before the due date. You may also pay online for faster processing.
IRS Guidance
If you have questions about estimated taxes, refer to IRS resources for clarification and up-to-date guidance.
Upcoming Open Enrollment
Open enrollment for health benefits begins on November 1st. Now is a great time to review your current health plan, expenses, and coverage needs. Many common questions can be answered by reviewing the open enrollment guide at HealthInsurance.org.
Preparing for Year-End Expenses
September is also an excellent month to evaluate your end-of-year expenses. Consider upcoming costs such as holiday travel and gifts, and adjust your budget accordingly to avoid dipping into savings or emergency funds.
