I’ve been using Timesheet (http://timesheet.io) on Android. Allows exporting to XLS which can then be manipulated/imported if needed. More of a stand-alone app for my purposes.

I found Dominion to be less expensive than a general business policy that other places sell. It sounds like you may not have talked with Lynn and instead gotten one of the other agents. As they say, Your Mileage May Vary.

I have used Google Voice since before it was purchased by Google. I will say that sometimes when I had it ringing both the landline and a cell, that it wouldn’t always ring both devices. Other times I had it go to vmail without ringing the phone first. I have not noticed any issues in the past six months or so. I have not missed any calls (they go to vmail if the phone doesn’t ring), but I take it as a no-cost option and am willing to have quirks now and then.

I would discuss this with your tax professional or one of the tax professionals you have for client referrals. While some DMMs are CPAs, DMMs in general are not tax professionals and cannot (will not) answer tax questions themselves.

I would recommend talking to your tax professional, or one of the ones you have to refer your clients to.

This software looks more like eMoney and other software used by Registered Investment Advisors to manage portfolios rather than what DMMs tend to manage. That said, many of these RIA tools have been adding the ability to manage cash flow accounts if desired.

I haven’t installed 2018 yet (a task for this week!), but from reading online Alix is right that you can still have multiple files but they just have to be under the one ID. I haven’t tried to use the feature, but I *think* it can sync with online to be able to use it with multiple devices. With multiple files under one ID, you’ll probably want to turn that feature off as it may get “confused” as to which file to sync with the cloud, as I *think* it only expects one file, and we’ll want to avoid intermixing files in any way.

It appears that Quicken 2018 and forward will only be available for purchase using a recurring subscription model. That is, no longer will Quicken be able to be purchased and then have support for 3 years. Instead, you have to maintain a yearly subscription in order to keep the software features (online features) operational. A quick look at the cost of Quicken Home & Business 2017 vs 2018 2-year subscription means the price has gone up slightly, but 2017 is no longer being sold. At least they haven’t gone to a web-only model (yet). One of the major features of any account management software I use is that it has to be able to work with my laptop offline, since not every client is going to have internet available.

So what do you think: will Quicken still be a useful tool to work with clients on their accounts (not necessarily for managing one’s own business)?

I’ve used both but ended up using Excel to document quarterly income and expenses, by building a pivot table by spending/income category and month. I’ve downloaded from financial institutions to Quicken but found that the defaults used by the institution didn’t always map well to Quicken. I still like Quicken for managing checking/savings/credit card accounts, but then just tend to track other accounts with a monthly balance update (to track total assets) rather than trying to download and integrate the transfers between accounts.

I found several templates for “check register” that are various levels of complexity. One offers the ability to enyer codes for categories so it could be modified to show vs. Budget amounts if desired. Since you are proficient in Excel you could build that for her use.
