CERTIFICATION

Key Requirements for Recertification

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

  • A total of 20 CEUs must be completed within the 3-year cycle.
    • 2 CEUs in Ethics (focused on AADMM’s Code of Ethics)
    • 10 CEUs on subjects related to finance, bookkeeping, bill-paying, payroll, and tax topics.
    • 8 CEUs covering types of expenses, standards of practice, and practical skills, such as medical bills, insurance, housing costs, and cash flow management.

Tracking and Documentation

  • Applicants must log CEUs using AADMM’s CEU Tracking System or manually submit an Excel tracking sheet along with relevant certificates of completion.
  • Each learning event must be at least 30 minutes to qualify for CEU credit. Half-hour programs earn 0.5 CEUs.
  • Events like speaking or teaching count as floating credits but require additional documentation to specify how hours are applied.

Application Submission Timeline and Fees

  • Applications should be submitted at least 30 days before the certification expiration date to prevent gaps in the credential.
  • Recertification fees are $150 for AADMM members and $200 for non-members.
  • Payment can be made via check or invoice request. Late applications could risk credential deactivation until all criteria are met.

Acceptable Continuing Education Courses and Topics

AADMM defines several core categories for eligible CEUs, including:

  • Bill Paying and Cash Flow Management
Covers payment methods, vendor negotiations, and bank reconciliation.
  • Basic Finance and Bookkeeping
Includes topics like budgeting, financial reporting, and working with accountants or financial advisors.
  • Payroll and Tax Basics
Education on payroll deductions, tax forms (e.g., 1099s, W-2s), and managing estimated taxes.
  • Handling Expenses
Addresses insurance issues, housing costs, and other large financial obligations.
  • Ethics
Reinforces accountability and professional standards through AADMM’s Code of Ethics.

Additional Considerations

  • Only approved courses from AADMM events or pre-approved outside education providers qualify for CEUs.
  • Extra CEUs cannot carry over into the next certification period.
  • Teaching, workshops, or other professional contributions related to daily money management can count toward CEUs if appropriately documented.
